Disrupting category conventions with cinematic drama
Men's skincare has long been dominated by uninspired brands recycling the same ingredients and applications borrowed wholesale from women's skincare, leaving a massive opportunity for a brand willing to actually meet men where they are. Lumin set out to fill that gap, and the creative challenge was finding a way to connect with a historically underserved audience on their own terms.
Rather than defaulting to the functional, clinical tone that defined the category, the Be Brilliant campaign leaned into genuine empathy, meeting men at the intersection of their evolving skincare needs and their desire to feel and perform at their best. The visual system ditched category conventions entirely, using surrealist, metaphor-driven imagery to dramatize men's skincare problems and solutions in ways the category had never seen. Unexpected, arresting, and distinctly male, the visuals gave the brand platform — Brilliant Men's Skincare Solutions — an identity as disruptive as its ambition, generating significant buzz, elevating brand awareness, and laying the creative foundation for multiple successful product launches and brand extensions that followed.
