Crafting a story worth drinking to

Montelobos (translation: Mountains of Wolves) is truly a mezcal like no other. Born from the vision of botanist and agave specialist Dr. Iván Saldaña and fifth-generation mezcalero Don Abel López Mateos, this artisanal spirit takes its name from its physical origins: the rugged, agave-rich highlands of Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, which sit in the shadow of a mountain range bearing the same name. Forged in that wild and storied landscape with the soul of the wolf as its guide, loyal, instinctual, and unapologetically rebellious, Montelobos is rich with tradition, complex in character, and unlike anything else in the category. It had a story worth telling. What it needed was a voice as deeply rooted and uncompromising as the spirit itself.

Brought in by the lead branding agency to develop that voice from the ground up, the work was anchored in the rich craft traditions of Oaxacan mezcal: from the early morning agave harvests to the blazing pit fires to the small-batch distillation methods unchanged for centuries. The goal was a brand essence that honored that heritage while positioning Montelobos as the purest possible expression of what mezcal can be at its absolute finest. The resulting voice framework became the creative backbone of the brand, defining the tone, character, and direction of all its marketing from the ground up.
